  • I'm leaving...

    ... TO WORDPRESS!

    Hah! GOTCHA!

(Actually, that probably didn't get any of you.. but for my own pleasure, I will pretend that my heading induced some of you to think I was physically leaving for Malaysia to join Keith or something and that you all panicked because you all were like NOO WE WILL MISS YOU LILY! Btw, that may happen at some point, but not now)...

    So anyway.

    FOR NOOOW, its about http://lilycheah.wordpress.com.

Xanga has been with me for a long time but I just wanted a fresh new platform for my writing.
I find Wordpress a lot easier to use too so hopefully that will encourage me to blog a little more.

So, see you on Wordpress :)

Btw, any way to save all my Xanga entries onto my comp ah?! Anyone know?

  • Of CNY and YouTube

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR! Yeh- observe my chinese skills:

    gung hei fatt choy
    sun leen fai lok
there's another one about good health but I can't remember it. Oh that's right
Sin ti chen kong (that's in Hakka though)

    oh yea!

Last night, after eating lots on CNY Eve (mum cooked up a storm as usual), I was missing Keith and so I decided to relax and take my mind off by surfing for vids on YouTube. Was watching a vid from xteeener (who does great make up and hair vids) when I discovered the YouTube phenomenon that is.... KEVJUMBA.

MAN that dude cracks me up! After making just a few vids he soared to #1 subscribed comedian on YouTube in 2008. He's been overtaken now by i have no idea who, but he's still really funny :)

He's American Chinese and I like that he does try to bring up interesting topics in his vids instead of just rambling on about nothing. He's talked about stereotypes, how hard girls are to understand and recently, the downs of college. Add to all of that, he delivers humour with a really straight face without even trying (he's just naturally funny- that's my take), he does fab editing, he's got some killer dance moves and his dad, who appears in a few of his videos, is hilarious!

    AND he's only 18!

Plus, even JESSICA ALBA watches his vids. Hello. How cool is that.

I think I'm going to be visiting his channel from now whenever I just need to chill out, not think and just laugh :)

Check his channel out for yourselves. Hope you enjoy his vids as much as I do. I am lacking sleep on Chinese New Year day because I stayed up to watch them.

I can so do PR work.

Have an OX-ilicious Chinese New Year

  • A new year has come

Okay! Time to blog again I think!
I've revamped my site a little bit but no use having a new look if there's no new posts right

2009 has come and what a big summer it has been.

First I went to New Caledonia for 3 weeks (and that was just an amazing time practicing French, making new friends and also learning a few life lessons along the way)

Then I started my research post at law school at the end of December

Then was Christmas, my 21st and New Years

Then Keith and I jumped off the Auckland Harbour Bridge together on 5 Jan 09

Then it was back to research work

Then Keith left for Malaysia for good on 10 Jan 09...

And since then it's been adjusting to him not being here and catching up on work hours! I need to complete 300 hours by the end of summer. That's 7.5 hours of work a day (not including breaks), so I have my work cut out for me.

2009 is going to be a big year and I can sense it.

I just feel like there's so much more to learn- about myself, about God, about others and just about life in general.

I'm only just discovering what kind of music I like! At 21! Can you believe it?

Plus there's the challenge of learning to build (not just maintain) a strong relationship long-distance.
So far, I think we've been doing ok. Hor Keith? We'll just have to be a bit more creative to avoid monotony.

    Woo...

2009- deng deng deng... ok I think I'm ready for you.

  • Ahahaha

First of all, I'd like to say my exam this morning went okay :) But what's more amazing is how calm I was approaching it. I USED to stress heaps, then in the last year or so I felt a lot of peace going into exams, but I still worried a little! But THIS one- it just felt like another day of uni! Isn't that COOL!!! There's always deeper levels of peace in God to discover.

Have to make this quick cos its almost dinner time. 3 funny things happened today

    (1) I 'fixed' my car air freshener!!! Honestly, I was so convinced the Glade air freshener in my car was faulty. I even bought another brand of car air freshener at Pak N Save today. I've tried SSOOO many times to get to smell out- I even set it to 2 (the highest most open setting) and TURNED my air con FULL blast and the smell still wouldn't come out OK!!!
Anyway, so today when I was installing my brand new Ambi Pur air freshener, I discovered the problem with the Glade.
I forgot to take off the plastic cap.
    ahahaha. Oops.

    (2) I choked on my own saliva. That's totally never happened!!! At least I don't remember this happening before anyway.
I was in the gym on the cross trainer and I was thinking about something. I forgot to swallow my saliva and it went down the wrong track.
    ahahhaha. Oops

    (3) Crazy big truck on the motorway could have caused me to get into an accident!!! I was in the middle lane and he was on the left. Then all of a sudden he starts coming into my lane OK! Without any signal or anything! This is like one of those HUGE trucks! I had to swerve to the right lane. Thank God there weren't any cars on the right.
Anyway, so the truck went back to its own lane when it NOTICED ME!! So I quickly sped up and overtook him.
    No ahahaha for this one.

    Ok that's all :)

  • Frustration!

I was watching a 60 minutes story yesterday about the upcoming American presidential elections. You can watch it for yourself here. I think the video should be available for at least the next 7 days on the tv3 website. After that, it may be stored in their archives. The segment in any case is called "Could Black be the New Red, White and Blue?"

For the superpower state that America is, I'm surprised how preposterously ungrounded some of their opinions (I say some) are.

    Let me vent.

    (1) Lady at Republican rally: Barack Hussein Obama is an Arab
Even if Obama is half-Arab (if you count Kenya as an Arab nation), why should this be so disturbing?

    (2) Oh please STOP with the whole ISLAM = TERRORISM. It drives me nuts.
There are millions of Muslims around the world that want nothing but to live in peace. Know what they really believe, then draw conclusions.

    (3) I am so sad that there are still white people who believe they are the supreme race.
Being white gives you 'deeper process thought'? *faint* The gas masks firefighters use? A black man invented it. Ice cream? The Chinese thought of it. Life in modern cities is not more 'advanced' than life in the desert or jungle. It's just different. Those who live in tribal communities who prefer to live off the land than construct some huge as economic structure can probably do a million things that we have no idea how to.

    (4) The USA's own record is not impressive.
I do not condone what happened on Sept 11. It was wrong. It is estimated that around 3000 people died (you can check CNN) and these were hardworking responsible working adults who were just going about their normal lives.

But let's really get some context here. Since the 2003 invasion of Iraq, 90 000 CIVILIANS (i.e. innocent men, women and CHILDREN) have been killed. Granted these may not all be attributable to US forces, but no doubt this number would still range in the tens of thousands (see www.iraqbodycount.org).

And DO NOT give me nonsense that dead children, dead fathers and dead mothers who were ALSO going about their daily normal lives as a result of bombs being dropped on villages or night time raids are a worthwhile "price to pay" for the fight against "terrorism".

    ...

Imagine if a Chinese ran for president at the next elections. My my, what a stir that will cause.

    ----------------------------------------------

30 mins later- I cut out a lot of portions of the above entry and re-edited heaps because I crossed the line and was judging people. Sorry. I have no right to do this. What's left is a not-so-exciting version, but one that does not eat at my conscience.

  • Lily Cheah

I am a woman, called by God to make a difference in this world.

    I love Jesus.

    I am a daughter, a sister, a girlfriend, a friend.

I am a keen observer, a determined-as-heck individual, a lover of details, a lover of aesthetics, a great listener, a fast learner and someone who gets kicks out of speaking or singing in front of huge crowds of people.

    I am a leader.

I speak 8 languages: English, Hakka, French, Malay, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Thai (order: from most fluent to least).

I am a law student and I am a French student.

By the start of 2010 I will have obtained a Law degree, an Arts (French) degree (BA/LLB conjoint) and an Honours degree in French (BA(Hons)) from the University of Auckland. (Though I'd have to wait until May 2010 to officially receive those precious yellow pieces of paper)

    Why French: I love it.

Why Law: To learn the awesome skills of awareness, quick thinking, succinctness, discipline, clarity in communication and knowing how to work with a LOT of information. Law challenges me. That's good.

I want a job where the following are utilised to their maximum potential: my legal skills, French skills and people skills.

I have lived a life of breakthrough and will continue to do so until the day I die. To constantly reach new heights, one must learn to constantly break through.

I have made many mistakes in my mere 20 years of life. I cannot go back and undo them so I might as well take the lessons they offer and use them as platforms for future successes. One can be proud of having made mistakes, if we know what to do with them.

I will live a life of honour. A life that honours God and people.

I will be the best employee my future bosses have ever had.

I will be the best employer my employees have ever had.

I will be a funky aunty, a great wife, a loving mother, a cool grandmother and a spunky greatgrandmother.

I will give my all to make sure that at the end of each day, I will be able to say I am satisfied with how I have lived it.

Signed this day, the 28th of September 2008
